What you may not know about bamboo is that it is one of the most eco friendly crops used for making textiles. We have always wanted to make products that are good for people and sustainable for the environment. Bamboo allows us to do just that. The growing and production process of organic bamboo textiles has a much lower impact on the environment than other materials including organic cotton. We love being able to provide people with soft and luxurious products that were made with minimal harm to the planet.

What is Bamboo?

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth. It is a type of tropical grass that grows plentifully in many parts of the world including China, Africa, Australia and the U.S. There is no need to set up irrigation systems for bamboo because it will thrive with the typical rainfall and sunlight provided by the natural climate.  Bamboo has been recorded to grow up to a meter in one day. This makes bamboo a great option as a quickly replenishing resource.

Bamboo crops don’t require pesticides and chemicals

Bamboo crops can be grown without the use of pesticides because the bamboo stalk possesses a natural insecticide called “bamboo-kun”. This same anti-bacterial component makes bamboo fabric more resistant to mildew, so bamboo clothes and linens stay fresher longer. The production process of turning bamboo into viscose fibers can also be accomplished without the use of harmful chemicals and dyes. Our cloths come in the natural bamboo cream color that is soft and neutral.

Bamboo is a sustainable and eco friendly crop

Because bamboo is such a fast growing crop that requires little maintenance it can reach maturity in as little as 3-4 years. It can be harvested as it grows by using a technique similar to cutting grass. The local bamboo farmers that grow our bamboo use this traditional method, which provides us with the resources we need and still allows the bamboo to keep growing. Bamboo is also a crop that benefits the environment. Bamboo actually improves soil quality by consuming larger amounts of nitrogen. It also reduces the amount of carbon dioxide in the air and produces 35% more oxygen than other forests.

Where does our bamboo come from?

While living in China, our supplier became familiar with the local bamboo farming community in China. She was impressed to learn about bamboo farming in relation to the impact on the environment. She discovered that organic bamboo crops have been harvested and processed by the locals for generations. By maintaining the traditional harvesting and processing practices we are able to have our products made with minimal ecological impact. Our products are manufactured locally in the bamboo factories and then shipped directly to the destination market. We are proud to provide you, our customer, with an eco-sustainable alternative for your home and baby.
