Parabens ... what are they? Why you should stay away from them!

Me again! Have you heard of PARABENS? Do you know what they are? I figured I would touch on this topic since the BUZZ around the Bath, Body and Beauty Category seems to be focusing really hard on products being PARABEN FREE. I would bet if you are like me, you did not know anything about this little word but, you did know that it must be bad for you! Well you have got that right! So what are parabens?? Parabens are widely used preservatives that prevent the growth of bacteria, mold and yeast in cosmetics and bath and body products. Sounds good, right? Not so fast - Parabens do a lot more than prevent mold and bacteria. Parabens possess estrogen-mimicking properties that are associated with increased risk of breast cancer. These harmful chemicals are absorbed through the skin and have been identified in biopsy samples from breast tumors. (*Source: Huffington Post) Parabens can be found in makeup, body washes, deodorants, shampoos, facial cleansers, lotions and more. There are 100% Natural preservatives which we use to combat bacteria and mold growth in our products so why large companies opt for the use of parabens is beyond me! I guess it has something to do with the fact that chemical ingredients are cheap and in my opinion these big branded companies would rather protect their bottom line than protect you, the customer!!! I am not sure about you but, I will pay a little extra to know I am getting an all natural, organic, hand created product that is safe for me and my family members! At Kogi Naturals, we promise to always keep our products free of PARABENS and other harmful chemicals. Please read my blog post tomorrow on Phthalates … another harmful agent you will want to stay far away from! In the meantime, read your labels and choose products that are natural, toxin-free and always 100% Paraben Free.
